Design Studio

Design Studio at LA Asian-Pacific Art Gallery is a project-based platform exploring ceramic design through the intersection of traditional Chinese ceramic materials and contemporary artistic practice.

Drawing from diverse ceramic traditions—including historical kiln systems, clay bodies, glazing techniques, and molding processes—the studio brings multiple material languages into dialogue with contemporary design and artistic thinking. Through this process, traditional techniques are not preserved as static references, but reactivated as active design tools.

Works developed within Design Studio may take the form of sculptural objects, functional pieces, or experimental prototypes. Each outcome reflects a balance between material heritage, artistic expression, and practical use—where an object can exist simultaneously as an artwork and as a usable form.

Design Studio operates as a space of research, experimentation, and limited design production, distinct from the gallery’s exhibition program, while remaining open to future collaborations across cultural and design contexts.
